The Band of the Coldstream Guards

Two of the brass players from The Underfall Yard, Dave Desmond (trombone) and Nick Stones (french horn) are members of the Band of the Coldstream Guards* and feature on a new album called Heroes.  My copy has just arrived and it's already one of my favourite albums of the year, with the right mix of rousing tunes (eg Ron Goodwin's glorious 633 Squadron and Eric Coates' Dambusters) and adagio-style pieces (eg Nimrod, I Vow to Thee My Country).
Highly recommended.

* Our other brass players are: Jon Truscott - tuba (Central Band of the Royal Air Force) and Rich Evans - cornet (the Army Air Corps Band).

Graham,

Looking forward to the new CD. According to a couple of posts on prgressiveears, some people have already got it. In Korea and Latvia!!!!! But not the UK??

Hi Barrie

we have had far more pre-orders for The Underfall Yard than we expected, so we've had to stagger the shipping onto different days just to manage the workload. In view of the Christmas post and our guarantee to get pre-orders to people on or before release date, we decided to send orders off to Australia, New Zealand, Japan and other distant countries first, then to non-EEC European countries and then EEC countries. Finally, we're doing UK orders which will be sent first class.

The idea was that CD's would arrive with people at more-or-less the same time, but the air-mail orders have, in some instances, got there more quickly than we expected.

One thing that has annoyed me is that CD Baby who distribute our music to iTunes and other download services have already started selling the CD in the USA, despite strict instructions not to sell before the 15th December. I am afraid that has proven to be beyond my control (although we only sent them a handful of copies just to get the iTunes ball rolling.)

Cheers

Greg

Hi Greg,

Not sure where I got Graham from!!! Anyway, understand the shipment stuff and so look forward to receiving this most anticipated new album very soon.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on the Genesis Live box set?

Cheers,

Barrie

I've only had time to listen to parts of it so I haven't formed a final opinion. The tracks from Seconds Out sounded sensational in 5.1, but I was really annoyed that they didn't include other songs from the '76 / '77 tours as they must have the multi-tracks. Plus it was a very odd decision not to include 5.1 mixes of Three Sides Live.

The video box is on my Christmas list, so I hope Santa brings me that on the 25th.

Cheers

Hi Greg,

I wholehartedly agree about the Seconds Out. Most fans want to hear the Bruford Genesis tour in its completion as well as a complete Wind & Wuthering concert. Maybe on day!

By the way if you haven't got it, the remaster of "A Curious Feeling" looks and sounds sensational.

Hi Barrie

I did buy A Curious Feeling and it is a fabulous release.

Wish Mike would agree to the same treatment for Smallcreep's.

Cheers
